In this kingdom, Rune’s shape-shifting abilities were a prized but dangerous gift. As a child of the Unseelie king and his unwilling Seelie bride, Rune’s very existence was a product of the court’s perverse and cruel nature. Expected to serve the court and the king without question, using her talents for their spying, manipulation and trickery. However as Rune grew older she began to question the court’s methods, its endless manipulation of the mortal world and the cruelty inflicted even upon its own members. The king had sent her to the mortal realm to infiltrate a group of powerful mortals who had stumbled upon a secret artifact, a relic of fae origin with the power to bind even the strongest Unseelie. Rune, took the guise of a beautiful miqo’te in order to gain the trust of the artifact’s guardian, a gender-bending mafia leader named Nifty Nixx. But as they spent more time together, Rune began to develop a deep, unsettling connection with Nifty, who seemed to have seen through Rune’s fae illusions. Unlike the others, Nifty wasn’t afraid of Rune’s true form and his kindness struck a cord within the fae. For the first time in her life she felt something akin to warmth, something so foreign to the cold, ruthless nature of the Unseelie. Determined to keep the artifact hidden, they forged a pact with a group of friends from Neon Necropolis to hide it until they can secure a better location. Rune spends her time guarding the artifact, occasionally coming out to mingle with the denizens of the Neon Necropolis.
